GOODYEAR DUNLOP - Luxembourg

Goodyear Dunlop is one of the largest private employers in Luxembourg, with approximately 3,300 associates and people from 53 different nationalities. Located in Colmar-Berg, Northern part of Luxembourg, Goodyear Dunlop Luxembourg is the most diversified site outside the United States

The Tire Plant is the heart of the Luxembourg site. The adjacent Wire and Mold Plants supply intermediate products to the European tire plants of the Group. The Research and Development Centre (GIC*L) is Goodyear's largest R&D Centre outside the United States. More than 950 scientists, engineers and technicians carry out research and development work in the automotive sector, construct and test new tires for passenger cars, heavy goods vehicles, agricultural machines and civil engineering equipment for the European, African and Asian markets.

The Tire Plant, which was officially inaugurated on 24 April 1951, employs some 1,350 people. It was the first production unit in Colmar-Berg and was producing tires for passenger cars, for aviation and light trucks as well as for farm vehicles. Today the Tire Plant has become a European centre for manufacturing and distribution of truck tires as well as tires for all kinds of civil engineering machine with a daily output of about 6,000 truck and 140 Earthmover tires.

As the need for tire vulcanisation molds had rapidly increased due to the expansion of tire plants in Europe and elsewhere, along with increasing market demand, and with the high number of molds required for tire development programs, Goodyear set up in 1970 in Colmar-Berg a unit for the manufacture of aluminum and steel molds. The finished products are delivered to all Goodyear Dunlop tire plants in Europe and beyond. The Mold Plant has a staff of more than 400 people.

This factory, which was built on the territory of the Municipality of Bissen , produces rolled steel cables, which are used in the manufacture of tires. These cables are designed for the belts and cords of radial tires. This Wire Plant was the first one, while a second plant of this kind was built in the United States in 1983. The inauguration of the Wire Plant, which currently has a staff of 300, took place in 1971.

Goodyear Innovation Center * Luxembourg (GIC*L) is Goodyear's major tire research and development centre outside of the United States . GIC*L has a staff of more than 950 engineers, scientists and technicians engaged in the development of car, light truck, truck and farm tires for the European, African and Asian markets.

Much of the work carried out in Luxembourg is centered on the engineering and testing of new products, for a wide variety of global service environments. Testing is a major activity at GIC*L, clocking up each day kilometers in the laboratories, on the tracks and on the road to equal the distance of more than ten trips around the world each day.
